Culture

Historically before 20th century Qatar relied heavily on the pearl industry and trade with eastern Asia, therefore, much of the traditional music and food is shared across the Gulf region.

The Qatar coast provides opportunities for fishing, pearl diving and sea trade.

Falconry is an integral part of the heritage and culture of Qatar, it was also known for its prized Arabians horses. They are part of Qatar's culture and tradition, with the Arabian horse racing enjoying a rich history in the Middle East.

Sports

Qatar pays special attention to the development of the sport infrastructure, to increase populatity of the sport in Qatar society and the region as well.

The successful hosting of the 15th Asian Games in 2006 in Doha, demonstrated to the world that Qatar is capable to host major sport event such as 1st ANOC World Beach Games in 2019 in Doha City, IAAF World Championship in Doha 2019, as well as  hosting of FIFA 2022 Wolrd Cup.

The sport infrastructure is considered to be one of the most advanced and modern in the world. ASPIRE academy is a great example for the development of the sport.

Football is the most popular sport in Qatar, in 2019 Qatar won the prestigious Asian Cup in 2019. Qatar is also home for world champion and Asian record holder in high jump.

Historically Qatar produces Asian champions in athletics. Equestrian is also very popular in Qatar and one the biggest equestrian training facilities in the world.

Climate

Intense heat of up to around 50 °C through the long summers combined with the low precipitation levels has restricted growth in the country.

Much of the country is a barren plain covered with sand so Qatar receives the majority of its water from the desalination of seawater.

The climate is characterized by a mild winter and a hot summer.

Rainfall in the winter is slight, averaging some 80 millimetres a year.

Temperatures range from 7 degrees centigrade in January to around 45 degrees at the height of summer.

The weather is generally pleasant during the period from October until May.
