Iran crowned Asian men’s volleyball champions

Tehran, Iran, September 23, 2019: Iran overpowered Australia in straight sets to win the Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship on Saturday, September 21.

Iran defeated Australia in the gold medal match, winning 25-14, 25-17, 25-21, in front of a raucous home crowd at the packed 12,000-seater Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran. It was the third time Iran had been crowned Asian champions, following victories in 2011 and 2013.

In the battle for third place, Japan defeated Korea 3-1 while Chinese Taipei defeated China 3-1 in the play-off for fifth spot. Pakistan beat arch-rivals India 3-2 to clinch seventh place.

Qatar defeated Kazakhstan 3-1 to claim ninth spot in the 16-team competition.
