Muscat, Oman, December 18, 2022: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) in cooperation with the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth in Al Sharqiyah Governorate, will organise Olympic Day 2022 in Sur on Friday, December 23.

The event will include many sporting activities and events, including walking, beach soccer, beach volleyball, cycling and kayaking. Run by the OOC’s Oman Sport and Active Society Committee, the event is expected to attract wide participation from the public.

Olympic Day is one of the key programmes of the OOC and is held annually to promote the concept of sports in society and a healthy lifestyle, making it a priority of public life.

The OOC is keen to hold the annual event across the various Governorates of Oman, ensuring the maximum participation of its citizens and residents. Previous Olympic Days have been held in the Governorates of Muscat, Musandam, Dhofar, Al Dhahirah, Al Batinah North and Al Dakhiliyah.

The activities will start at 3.30pm on the Corniche of the wilayat of Sur, and continue until 6pm. At the end of the event, prizes and certificates will be distributed to all participants.

Olympic Day traditionally falls on June 23, which is the anniversary of the founding of the International Olympic Committee. It was celebrated for the first time in 1948, and it encourages National Olympic Committees to adopt sports, cultural and educational initiatives.
