Hong Kong Olympians join launch of HKSI 30th anniversary exhibition

Hong Kong, China, May 30, 2022: Five of Hong Kong’s Olympic heroes helped mark the 30th anniversary of the Hong Kong Sports Institute on Saturday, May 28 at New Town Plaza in Sha Tin with the launch of a six-week roving exhibition from now until July 3.

The exhibition allows the public to better understand the work of the HKSI and have a glimpse of the key achievements of the SAR’s elite athletes over the past 30 years.

Hong Kong’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic table tennis women’s team bronze medallists Doo Hoi-kem, Lee Ho-ching and Minnie Soo Wai-yam joined fellow Olympians Ng Ka-long (badminton) and Wong Hiu-ying (gymnastics) to share their personal stories of how vital the support from HKSI has been in their sports achievements.

Mr Ron Lee, Director of Community Relations and Marketing of the Hong Kong Sports Institute, said at the exhibition’s kick-off that the objective of the roving exhibition was to promote Hong Kong’s elite sports athletes and highlight the vital role of the HKSI in the local elite training ecosystem.

“Supporting champions takes a team effort and a shared goal. The HKSI 30th Anniversary Roving Exhibition is to highlight the success we have achieved over the last three decades and to recognise those involved in our past achievements,” said Lee, a former Olympic fencer for Hong Kong.

“More than just celebrating the past, we are now inviting the public to share our excitement and join us in looking forward to the future.

“To sustain the results our athletes are achieving, HKSI will continue to work hard on every aspect and in forming the best team possible to support our mission.”

The HKSI 30th Anniversary exhibition will be at New Town Plaza through 5 June, before temporary installations at Metro City Plaza (8-19 June) and Lok Fu Place (22 June – 3 July).
