Hangzhou, China, February 23, 2021: Organisers of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2022 have announced that the new venue for the esports competition is expected to be finished before October 31, 2021.

Esports was approved as an official medal sport at Hangzhou 2022 by the OCA General Assembly in Muscat, Oman, on December 16, 2020.

There will be six events, as the ever-growing esports community steps up from its demonstration sport status at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia in 2018 under the Asian Electronic Sports Federation.

The esports competition venue will be located in the Xiacheng District of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province in eastern China, as part of an esports-themed ecological park.

With a vortex-structure design, the venue has a total construction area of 80,000 square metres and a seating capacity of 4,087.

The projected completion date of October 31, 2021 will give the organisers almost one year to finetune the venue before the 19th Asian Games, which will run from September 10-25, 2022.
