28 Jun 2010
Doha : Qatar has delivered a presentation on its preparations for hosting the ninth International Conference on Sport and the Environment at the annual meeting of the IOC Sport and Environment Commission in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Qatar Olympic Committee will organise the conference from April 30-May 2, 2011.

The QOC presentation highlighted the accommodation of participating delegations, transportation, online registration measures, visa procedures and environmental events.

QOC stressed the importance of the environment in the state of Qatar. Environmental development is the fourth pillar of Qatar Vision 2030 alongside Human Development, Social Development and Economic Development.

The presentation also shed light on the major sporting events organised in Qatar, such as the 15th Asian Games “Doha 2006” and the 13th IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships “Doha 2010”.

QOC has established the Qatar Sport and Environment Committee that specialises in environmental protection and sustainable development. QOC also organised the third edition of Schools Olympic Programme under the theme of “Sport and Environment” with the participation of students of government, independent and foreign schools in Doha.

The conference is considered as one of the basic programmes and events organised by the IOC every two years with the attendance of representatives and officials of governments, UN, IOC and non- governmental organisations.

HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, QOC Secretary General, is a member of the IOC’s Sport and Environment Commission.
