Sailors battle the wind in the most recent races.
Al Bareh International Regatta is under way

Manama, Bahrain: The popular and prestigious annual Al Bareh International Regatta is under way at the Bahrain Sailing Club premises near Al Jazayer Beach featuring over 90 sailors from the GCC, North Africa, South Asia and Europe. The 21st edition of the championship, being organised by the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association, is being contested by sailors from Egypt, France, Tunisia, Morocco, India, Pakistan, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Oman and Bahrain.

There are four classes - Laser Standard, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7 and the Optimist class for young sailors - and the five-day event concludes on Monday.

The races were witnessed by members of the organising committee, headed by Bahrain Maritime Sports Association President Shaikh Khalifa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa. Shaikh Khalifa said he was pleased with the overall competition and the smooth operating of the championship.

He extended his welcome to all the delegations taking part and thanked them for their cooperation with the organisers.
