Kish Island hosts girls’ fun run

03 May 2012
Kish Island, Iran: The 13th Incheon Asian Games Fun Run for girls was held on Thursday in Kish Island, Islamic Republic of Iran.

The 2.5-km fun run, which started from Kish Marine Recreation and Sports Complex and finished at Kish City Hall, attracted a total of 400 students from eight girls schools in Kish Island: Kosar, Farhang, Alghadir, Paeegah Havaee, Hajar, Besat, Alzahra and Maryam.

The top 10 runners received a medal, certificate and bicycle as a gift from Kish Sports Authority. In addition, the local organisers – as is customary - held a lucky draw for consolation prizes to encourage the participation of girls in sport.

IAGOC Planning HQ Director General Park Byung Jin expressed his appreciation during the medal presentation.

"This has been an excellent fun run event today,” he said. “It is such a pleasure to visit Kish Island to promote the Incheon Asian Games. I am indeed impressed by the enthusiasm for sport from the Iranian young girls. I hope to see you at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.”

Mr. Vahid Kardany, OCA Technical Department, and Mr. Majid Bazmoon, Director of the Kish Sports Authority, also gave speeches at the medals ceremony.

The 2014 Incheon Asian Games fun run in Kish Island will host the boys' fun run on Friday, with 600 students expected to join the same route.
