Injured Ahmed shows Olympic spirit

24 Apr 2012
Muscat, Oman: The old adage that taking part is more important than winning was never more appropriate than at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Oman, on Tuesday morning. Despite injuring his ankle the previous day, there was no way that 13-year-old Ahmed Salim Al Rahbi was going to miss the OCA’s Incheon Asian Games Fun Run + Learn event.

Ahmed Salim, from Al Nahda Private School, joined in the 1.5km fun run with his caretaker and won many admirers for displaying his true Olympic spirit in completing the distance in hot conditions. “I injured my ankle yesterday in school PE class, but I knew there was going to be an Asian Games Fun Run today and I just wanted to be part of it,” he said.

“That is why I came along, to join in the Asian Games Fun Run with all my classmates. “It was really great fun today. I noticed it was a bit different from others. We all enjoyed it and are excited about the Incheon Asian Games.”
