All athletes can join in closing ceremony

Muscat, Oman: There will be no limitations on the number of athletes participating in the closing ceremony of the 2nd Asian Beach Games on Thursday, December 16, organising committee MABGOC announced at the last Chefs de Mission meeting on Thursday morning.

MABGOC representative Mubarak Hill told the National Olympic Committees that the protocol department would carry the flags and name boards of the teams, and that all the athletes would enter the arena together at Al Musannah Sports City.

In the opening ceremony on December 8, the teams walked in separately behind their flag and name card, and only 30 athletes were allowed per delegation, plus the flag-bearer.

Mubarak announced that buses would leave for Al Musannah from athlete hotels in Muscat at 2.30pm, and that guests staying at the Shangri-La and Al Bustan hotels would depart at 3pm for Port Sultan Qaboos. From there they would travel to Al Musannah by ferry, arriving at the closing ceremony venue at 6.30pm, 30 minutes before the start.

MABGOC’s Director of Operations Ramon Suzara took the opportunity of the last Chefs de Mission meeting to thank everyone for their patience, understanding, cooperation and support of the 2nd Asian Beach Games Muscat 2010.

“The Games do not finish until the athletes depart, so we will arrange for the smooth departure of all participants over the next two days,” he said.
