29 Jun 2012
Incheon, Korea: The one-year countdown ceremony for the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in 2013 took place on Friday at Yonsei University's Songdo Campus. More than 600 guests attended the event including IAGOC President Kim Young-soo, Incheon Mayor Song Young-gil, representatives from OCA and NOCs, local assembly members and the city council chairman.
According to the Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee (IAGOC), the ceremony was held to promote interest in the Games nationwide. The event provided the audience and Incheon citizens the opportunity to learn more about the AIMAG and enjoy a range of performances, such as acrobatic cheerleading and martial arts performances.
On the occasion of a contest to select ushers for victory ceremonies, organisers were also able to officially inform the public of the progress of the Games preparations.
"Hosting the 2013 AIMAG will be an opportunity to build experience in the operation of an international sporting event and examine the organisers' operational abilities, striving to stage a successful 2014 Asian Games. It will also lay a foundation for the development of less popular sports within the Asian region,” IAGOC said in its official statement to the media.
