FIS Council 2014-2016 - FIS
Four Asian ski federations join FIS

17 Jun 2014
Barcelona, Spain: Held in Barcelona (Spain) from June 1-6, the 49th International Ski Congress of the International Ski Federation (FIS) was attended by more than 1,000 participants. A new FIS Council was elected for the 2014-2016 period. The Congress affiliated Dominica, Guyana, Malaysia, Paraguay, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Timor Leste as associate members of the FIS, which now has 122 member federations.

One of the highlights of the Congress was the re-election of FIS President Gian Franco Kasper for his seventh term from 2014-2018. He was elected for the first time in 1998 (with two-year terms from 1998 until 2006 and four year terms from 2006).

Three new members were elected to the FIS Council, including Aki Murasato of Japan. He joins Lee Sung Won (Korea), who is now one of four Vice Presidents.

The Council appointed several Honorary Members of FIS Committees in recognition of their outstanding services, including Hitonari Maruyama (JPN) on the Alpine Technical Delegates Sub-Committee.
