20 Sep 2012
Colombo, Sri Lanka: A delegation led by China's Sports Minister and National Olympic Committee President, Liu Peng, is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka this weekend, a statement said here on Wednesday. The Sri Lankan Sports Ministry expects to work with China to develop sports activities in the country. The visit is due to kick off on Sunday, September 23, according to China’s official news agency Xinhua.

“Since China is a fast-moving nation in the field of sport in the world, it is expected to discuss possible ways of cooperation with the Ministry,” the media release stated. The Sports Ministry added that the construction of a high-altitude training centre in Nuwara Eliya, a location that is exceptional for special athletic training, would also be discussed to obtain foreign assistance.

The matter of implementing a long-term cooperation to develop sport in Sri Lanka with the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC) is also expected to be on the agenda during the visit of the Chinese delegation.
