Iraqi, Indian archers win top sports awards

Lausanne, Switzerland: The World Archery Federation (WA) has announced that two female archers have been named athlete of the year in their respective countries. Deepika Kumari has been elected Sportsperson of the Year in India. A gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games, Kumari won a third consecutive silver medal at the World Cup Final. 

Fatimah Almashhadani was named Athlete of the Year 2013 by a panel made up of members of the Iraqi NOC, sports federations, journalists and experts. The 15-year-old archer finished fifth in the cadets division at the World Archery Youth Championships in Wuxi (People’s Republic of China) last October.
