Indonesia’s popular and effervescent NOC President, Mrs Rita Subowo, has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree by the Semarang State University of Central Java in recognition of her achievements and contributions to the world of sport since 1987.

The Olympic Council of Asia, through its President, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, congratulated Mrs Subowo on the award and said it was fully deserved for all her hard work and initiatives over many years. In particular, Mrs Subowo played a leading role in the organisation and the success of the 1st Asian Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia, in 2008, setting the standards for others to follow in what is sure to become one of the OCA's most sought-after events.

The Secretary General of the Indonesia Olympic Committee, Arie Ariotedjo, has written to the IOC President, Jacques Rogge, informing him of the “pride and joy” felt by the Indonesian sports community. The award was presented on March 11.
