Mongolia NOC outlines support for baseball/softball, karate for Tokyo 2020

06 Feb 2017
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, February 6, 2017: Mongolia NOC Vice President Ts. Damdin and Secretary-General J. Otgontsagaan met representatives from two sports federations with an eye on competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Mongolia NOC has confirmed its commitment to fully supporting the two federations – baseball/softball and karate - by organising Olympic Solidarity technical courses for coaches, joining the worldwide programme for the Development of National Sports Structure (DNSS) and securing Team Support grants.

Presentations were made by the National Federations of Baseball/Softball and by Olympic Karate, headed by the office bearers, Ch. Munkhsaikhan, J. Enkhjavkhlan, G. Battur and J. Tsetsegdelger. Also, all parties discussed in detail the possibility of qualifying for Tokyo 2020 in baseball/softball and in karate, as well as their participation in the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang 2018.

The Mongolian Baseball Federation was founded in 1991 and was renamed to incorporate softball at the NOC General Assembly in September 2016. Karate’s governing body was created in 1989 as the Mongolian Karate-do Federation and changed its name to Olympic Karate after the IOC's decision to include karate in Tokyo 2020 last August. Both federations made their international debut at the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan.
