Sheikh Ahmad attends Kazakhstan NOC’s 25th anniversary

Astana, Kazakhstan, March 17, 2017: The Kazakhstan National Olympic Committee celebrated its 25th anniversary on March 17. A solemn ceremony dedicated to this occasion was held today in the capital's Palace of Peace and Reconciliation. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

During his welcome speech he noted the special role of the Olympic Movement in the modern society. “Accession to the Olympic Movement became an important part of the process of building the independency of the Republic of Kazakhstan. After all, the Olympic Movement is more than just sport. It is a philosophy of life based on the values of unity, mutual respect and excellence.

“Olympic champions inspire millions of kids around the world to join sports. For Kazakhstan, sport has always been a powerful and unifying force, raising the national spirit, bringing up the will to succeed, a sense of patriotism and love for the homeland,” said the Kazakhstan President.

At the end of his speech, Nursultan Nazarbayev awarded the honorary guest of the ceremony, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, with a jubilee medal dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Sheikh Ahmad noted the importance and significance of the 25th anniversary of the Kazakhstan NOC.

"Since your independence, many sports achievements and merits of Kazakh athletes have brought joy and glory to your young country. On behalf of the international Olympic community, I express my gratitude to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for his tireless attention to sport issues and his contribution to the development of the Olympic Movement. 

“I am also grateful to the members of the Kazakhstan Olympic family for creating such a solid platform for success in sports. Together, you made great efforts to strengthen Kazakhstan's position as one of the valuable members of the world Olympic Movement. Based on strong sports traditions and successes in the past, you can confidently look into the even brighter future of the Olympic sport in Kazakhstan,” said the ANOC and OCA President.

Summing up the results of the 25-year work on the development of the Olympic Movement in Kazakhstan, the head of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Timur Kulibayev, said that thanks to the joint efforts, an effective mechanism for the training of top-level athletes was created in the country. And all subsequent actions of the Kazakhstan NOC will be directed to the further development of the Kazakh sport.

"Over these 25 years of the formation of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, our Republic has become one of the most active members of the international Olympic Movement. Thanks to the attention and care of the nation's Leader, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who constantly keeps the focus on physical education and sports in the country, the number of victories of our athletes began to grow from year to year. 

“Therefore, we are confident in the future with self-assurance, preparing to conquer new sports peaks," he said. The leaders of international Olympic organisations, including the Presidents of international Federations Julio Maglione (FINA), Klaus Schormann (UIPM), Francesco Ricci-Bitti (ASOIF), Tamas Ajan (IWF) as well as the Presidents and representatives of 15 National Olympic Committees this day shared the celebration of special occasion with Kazakhstan nation.
