Winter Olympic champions become IAG ambassadors

14 Jul 2014
2014 Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee (IAGOC) named two Olympians as goodwill ambassador. Olympic speed skating champion Lee Sanghwa and short track gold medalist Park Seunghui were appointed as goodwill ambassadors for the 17th Asian Games at Press Center in Seoul on July 14.

It is unusual that winter Olympic athletes are appointed to be a goodwill ambassador of summer games.

Kim Young-soo, President of the IAGOC, said that "We hope our winter sports stars can deliver a message of mutual communication, harmony, reconciliation and peace among 4.5 billion Asians" and eventually achieve our hope that all Koreans unify as “one” and embrace all other athletes.

Lee and Park will take a PR role along with other goodwill ambassadors, such as swimmer Park Taehwan, marathoner Lee Bong-Joo, soprano Jo Sumi, K-pop band JYJ and actor Hyun Bin.
