Bahrain Sports Day mascot unveiled

Manama, Bahrain, January 31, 2017: The inaugural Bahrain Sports Day on Tuesday, February 7 promises a packed programme covering all parts of the Kingdom in order to promote sport and a healthy lifestyle. More than 10 ministries, four governorates, 28 sports federations, national and expatriate sports clubs as well as youth centres will all deliver a multi-sporting event on a single day.

Details on the upcoming festival, organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Youth and Sports Ministry, were revealed at a media conference at the BOC premises in Seef.

The chairman of the organising committee and Southern Governor, Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, began the conference by thanking His Majesty King Hamad for his continued support of sport in Bahrain, leading the nation to massive development in all areas.

Shaikh Abdulla also referred to Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and BOC President, as a role model for Bahrain’s athletes and praised his contributions to sport in the nation.

The Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Deputy General Secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee General Secretary, Abdulrahman Askar, revealed the official mascot, which is inspired by the Bahrain map. The 2017 Bahrain Sports Day is being organised in compliance with the GCC National Olympic Committees Presidents’ decision to have a single day of sports for all and other activities all over the Gulf.
