Kandy, Sri Lanka: The 16th edition of the OCA's Incheon Asian Games 2014 Fun Run + Learn series concluded its two-day programme on Sunday in a festival atmosphere in the ancient city of Kandy. Together with their teachers and families, more than 500 students aged from 12 to 16 took part in the 5-km fun run starting from Kandy Railway Station and finishing at the of Kandy Dharmaraja College.

The closing ceremony at the college was watched by a full house of almost 1,000 people and ended with a colourful, traditional Sri Lankan dance. The chief guest was the Hon. Sarath Ekanayake, Hon. Chief Minister/Minister of Provincial Education.

Other VIP guests included Sri Lanka NOC Secretary General Maxwell de Silva, OCA representative Vahid Kardany and the Director General of IAGOC's Cultural Events and PR HQ, Park Byung Jin. Local education and sports officials also attended the closing ceremony.

Mr de Silva thanked the OCA and IAGOC for selecting Kandy as the host city in his closing remarks. OCA representative Vahid Kardany praised the local organising committee’s commitment to hosting the Fun Run + Learn event in Kandy.

"I can say the Sri Lanka Fun Run is among the top five so far of the 16 we have held," he said. “When I first came to Colombo I asked the Sri Lanka NOC why they were not hosting the event in the capital city. I was only told 'you will find out yourself in Kandy’. Now I know the answer." IAGOC's Park expressed his sincere appreciation to the Sri Lanka NOC and Kandy local government. "This has been a great experience for us," he said.

"Our 18-hour flight from Incheon to Sri Lanka and three-hour journey from Colombo to Kandy have been worth every minute. We are also happy and satisfied by the successful conclusion of the Fun Run + Learn in Kandy. It has been a wonderful two days.” The Incheon Asian Games Fun Run + Learn series will continue its journey in Macau on November 6-7, on the sidelines of the OCA General Assembly on November 8.
