Fun Run brings curtain down on Maldives sports carnival

10 Feb 2013
Male, Maldives: A Fun Run involving around 600 students aged from nine to 16 on Sunday afternoon rounded off a triple-header of Olympic-related activities in Male over the weekend. The students, all wearing the attractive Fun Run + Learn series T-shirts and caps, had fun in the sun around the 2.2-km course and then stayed behind for the official prize presentation to conclude the festivities.

“I would like to thank the Olympic Council of Asia for the initiative in putting together this very attractive project, involving the Youth Reporter, Fun Learn quiz and Fun Run,” said Maldives Olympic Committee President Ibrahim Ismail Ali. “I would also like to thank the Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee and congratulate them on their promotional activities around the continent before the 17th Asian Games in 2014.

“My colleagues at the Maldives Olympic Committee have worked very hard to conduct this programme and I am sure everyone has had fun and learned a lot about the sports movement in Asia.” Mr Ibrahim said he hoped the visitors from overseas would leave the Maldives with good memories and return to the islands in the future.

“I am sure you will see some of the children here in future Asian Games representing the Maldives,” he concluded. Speaking on behalf of the OCA, Vahid Kardany from the technical department in Kuwait thanked the Maldives Olympic Committee for putting on a fantastic weekend of activities and involving so many students from different schools.

He said he was certain the Olympic Movement would be stronger as a result of this mass participation and enthusiasm. Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee Deputy Secretary General Su Jung Ghyu thanked all the students for participating and said the excitement was building towards the Asian Games in 2014 and also the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon this June.
