Fun Run + Learn in Chinese Taipei

04 Mar 2012
New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei: Chinese Taipei NOC held the second leg of this year’s OCA Incheon Asian Games Fun Run series on Sunday, March 4. The Fun Run brought the Asian Games into New Taipei City with a view to raising people’s awareness and interest in the 17th Asian Games 2014 to be held in Incheon, Korea.

Attracting 3,400 runners, including 500 school students in the 6-km run, the Asian Games Fun Run was organised in conjunction with a historic international marathon taking place on New Taipei City’s beautiful northern coast, which registered a record number of 11,000 runners. The medals and certificates for the first three places of the Fun Run were awarded by the OCA.

After the run, Chinese Taipei NOC also staged an Asian Games Fun Learn Quiz, with a focus on the knowledge and history of the Asian Games. Fourteen students representing seven schools from New Taipei City took part in the competition after completing the Fun Run.

Cheng Yi Chieh, 14, from Si Meng Primary School, won the quiz and was awarded special prizes by the OCA and 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee. She will also be invited to Incheon for the Asian Games grand final quiz in 2014.

The Chinese Taipei NOC also held an Olympic event on the same site. To celebrate humanity through sport, the Giving is Winning donation campaign - initiated by the IOC and UNHCR to improve the lives of refugees around the world - collected second-hand sports clothes from the runners before the start of the run.

The OCA delegation was led by Director General Husain Al-Musallam, and the Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee representatives by the Deputy Head of External Affairs, Kim Joong-Jae. Dr. Shia-Ling Tai, Minister of Sports Affairs Council, Mayor Liluan Chu of New Taipei City, Mr. Fred Maetoloa , President of Solomon Islands Olympic Committee, and Thomas Tsai, President of Chinese Taipei NOC, and local dignitaries were present at the occasion.
