VIP Guests inspect students'' essay writing test.
OCA's Youth Reporter Project calls at Kandy

Kandy, Sri Lanka: A total of 50 students from 28 schools in the Central Province of Kandy attended the fifth edition of the OCA's Asian Games Youth Reporter Project on Saturday at Dharmaraja College. The high number of participants and schools is further proof that the Youth Reporter Project is receiving strong support at grassroots level among all the participating National Olympic Committees.

The event was attended by the Hon. Sarath Ekanayake, Hon. Chief Minister/Minister of Provincial Education, Maxwell de Silva, Sri Lanka NOC Secretary General, B.L.H. Perera, Sri Lanka NOC Programme Director, Vahid Kardany, OCA Technical Department, and Park Byung Jin, Director General of IAGOC Cultural Event and PR HQ.

"I have travelled all the way from Incheon to the beautiful city of Kandy to promote the 17th Incheon Asian Games 2014. I believe today’s event will provide the perfect opportunity to help you better understand the Incheon Asian Games and celebrate the harmonious and friendship of Asia,” said Mr. Park in his opening speech.

OCA representative Vahid Kardany emphasised that the Youth Reporter Project's main objective was to promote the Olympic values among Asian’s future generation.

"OCA is proud to have the Incheon Asian Games Fun Run + Learn in Kandy, and as part of the Olympic Movement in Asia, OCA would like to use this project to promote Excellence, Friendship and Respect among the young generation in Asia," he said.

Hon. Sarath Ekanayake, Hon. Chief Minister/Minister of Provincial Education, thanked the OCA and IAGOC for giving Kandy the opportunity to host the prestigious Fun Run + Learn event in his hometown, "Kandy is a beautiful and historical city in Sri Lanka. As Sri Lanka is celebrating 1 million foreign tourists in 2012, more than 800,000 of them visit Kandy. Therefore I would like to welcome all of you and have a wonderful stay in Kandy.”
