Schools Mini Olympics winners honoured

Manama, Bahrain: Champions of the first Mini Olympics in Bahrain were honoured at the closing ceremony at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town on Tuesday. The Mini Olympics was organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. It featured four sports - athletics, volleyball, basketball and table tennis - and more than 700 students from government schools across the kingdom. The winners were:

Athletics: Boys - 1, Othman Bin Affan School (44 points); 2, Arad School (37); 3, Riffa (36).
Girls - 1,

Al Qairawan School (33); 2, Al Hidd (29); 3, Arabian Gulf School (25).

Basketball: Boys - 1, Abdulrahman Al Nasser School; 2, Othman bin Affan; 3, Al Salmaniya. Girls - 1, Um Kolthoum School; 2, Arad School; 3, Isa Town.

Volleyball: Girls - 1, Um Salama School; 2, Qurtoba; 3, Zaynab. Boys - 1, Zallaq; 2, Al Hidd; 3, Tareq bin Ziyad School.

Table tennis: Boys - 1, Tareq bin Ziad School; 2, Arad School; 3, Deraz School. Girls - 1, Um Salama; 2, Al Hidd, 3, Qurtoba.

The schools received their prizes from BOC acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, who deputised for the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and BOC President, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The closing ceremony was also attended by other high-ranking BOC officials, in addition to the Education Ministry’s Dr Shaikha Al Jeeb and other senior ministry officials.
