Chinese Taipei NOC sends record number of winter sports athletes to Sapporo 2017

15 Feb 2017
Sapporo, Japan, February 15, 2017: The OCA’s 8th Asian Winter Games will be held in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan from February 19-26 and the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee will be represented by a record winter sports delegation. This year there are 41 athletes - 35 male and six female - from Chinese Taipei competing in five sports: skiing (Alpine), skating, ice hockey, curling and biathlon.

The total delegation amounts to 71 people – a record high in terms of both the size of the delegation and the number of athletes. The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee held the flag presentation ceremony on February 9. Sports Administration Director-General Jow-fei Ho presented the Chinese Taipei Olympic flag to the Head of Delegation, Mr. Hung-Dao Lin, to inspire the morale of the team.

Taiwan is situated in the subtropical zone, which makes it difficult when engaging in winter games. However, the Chinese Taipei Olympic team has not been absent from previous Asian Winter Games.

The Chairman of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee and Head of Delegation, Mr. Hung-Dao Lin, thanked the participating associations for their great efforts in overcoming difficulties and training athletes. He also thanked the government for its long-term support for the development of winter sports.
