Phnom Penh, Cambodia: The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia will celebrate Olympic Day 2011 on Saturday, June 18, by staging the Phnom Penh Half Marathon in collaboration with the Khmer Athletics Federation. Around 2,000 people are expected to participate.
The event will also be held to promote the environment and to preserve a clean city, NOCC Secretary General Mr Vath Chamroeun told a press conference recently at the NOCC Secretariat.
“The Olympic Day Half Marathon in Phnom Penh this year will be held on June 18,” he said.
“As well as attracting participants who will be running for fun and as part of a healthy lifestyle, we are also expecting professional athletes to compete. We will have rewards for the athletes, with $1,000 for the winner, $700 for second place and $500 for third.”
Media Director Mr. Hang Sorya explained that foreigners living in Cambodia would be charged an entry fee of $15, and foreigners coming to compete from other countries would be charged $25. The fee for Khmer people would be 10,000 riel.
