OCA Press Release: OCA Media Committee Chairman impressed with services for 2,100 media at Sapporo 2017

25 Feb 2017
Sapporo, Japan, February 25, 2017: The Chairman of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Media Committee, Mr Charles Lo, toured the Main Media Centre (MMC) of the 8th Asian Winter Games on Saturday. The MMC has been established in the Sapporo Convention Centre and houses the Main Press Centre (MPC) and the International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) on the ground floor. The second floor has two press conference rooms.

Mr Lo, who is President of the Macau-China NOC, was very impressed with the MMC. “I would like to congratulate the organising committee SAWGOC for the facilities and the services they have provided for the media,” he said. “The Sapporo Convention Centre is so vast and spacious that it can provide everything the media needs to work comfortably and efficiently.”

Mr Lo was greeted at the MMC by the SAWGOC Press Manager, Mr Hiroshi Takeuchi, who is a media expert from Kyodo News in Tokyo and highly experienced in major sports events for the Japanese Olympic Committee, International Olympic Committee, International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and also as a member of the OCA Media Committee.

The 8th Asian Winter Games in Sapporo and Obihiro have attracted 2,100 media from 20 countries and regions, including 1,000 staff from the host broadcaster, SAWBS, and 700 reporters and photographers. Mr Lo added: “There is a lot of interest in our Asian Winter Games because they are being held just one year before the next Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Korea.

“After that it will be Beijing’s turn to host the Winter Olympics in 2022, so the interest in winter sports in Asia is growing all the time and the winter sports scene is developing rapidly. “The OCA is totally satisfied with the MMC at the 8th Asian Winter Games. The attention to detail in the services and logistics for the media at the IBC and MPC are first-class, and the size of the Sapporo Convention Centre is at an Olympic Games level.”
