21 Feb 2017
Sapporo, Japan, February 20, 2017: The President of the Olympic Council of Asia, HE Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, took part in a ceremony on Monday to mark the official recognition of the Sapporo Olympic Museum by the International Olympic Committee. The museum is located at the famous Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium and features photos, equipment and other memorabilia from the Sapporo Winter Olympics in 1972.

Sapporo also hosted the first two editions of the OCA’s Asian Winter Games in 1986 and 1990, as well as the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in 2007 – and these events and more provide a rich legacy of the city’s winter sports history.

The opening ceremony dignitaries also included the President of the Japanese Olympic Committee, IOC member Mr Tsunekazu Takeda, and the Mayor of Sapporo, Mr Katsuhiro Akimoto, who is also President of the Sapporo Asian Winter Games Organising Committee.

Officials are inviting Asian Winter Games visitors to call in at the museum when Okurayama hosts the men’s large hill individual and team events on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both events begin at 5.30pm.
