Closing Ceremony for the 1st Asian Beach Games

The closing ceremony for 1st Asian Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia was held on the 26th October 2008 at Garuda Wisnu Kencana. This ceremony was a spectacular event which fulfilled the Beach Games motto “Inspire the World” which it certainly did. The ceremony consisted of Indonesian traditional dances, music and songs from Bali and all of its major islands.

The proud participants paraded with their flags on stage in groups from the OCA’s 5 Zones: South Asia, Central Asia, East Asia, West Asia and South East Asia. The athletes were congratulated and praised on their achievements and sportsmanship by Indonesia's Vice President Muhammad Yusuf Kalla.

The Chairman of the Bali Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee (BABGOC) Aburizal Bakrie gave a speech which thanked everybody and especially the government for their support which made it possible for Bali to host such successful Games and Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia, Timothy Fok praised all involved and congratulated Aburizal Bakrie and Mrs Rita Subowo Director General of BABGOC and President of the Indonesia Olympic Committee before announcing the games closed.

The OCA flag was then passed to Oman who is to host the 2nd Asian Beach Games in 2010 in Muscat. The Games that inspired the world finally came to an end when the flame was extinguished.
