31 Jan 2017
Manama, Bahrain, January 31, 2017: Women’s sport in the Gulf region continues to grow thanks to the pioneering work of the GCC Women’s Committee of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees. There will be two big events in the next couple of months, starting with the Arab Women’s Clubs Tournament organised by Sharjah Ladies’ Club of the United Arab Emirates in February.

Following this, the 5th GCC Women’s Games will take place in Doha, Qatar, from March 7-17. The 13 sports on the programme are: handball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, shooting, athletics for people with disabilities, chess, fencing, bowling, tennis, athletics and equestrian.

Recent meetings of the two organising committees were chaired by Bahrain NOC Executive Board member Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, who is Chair of the NOC’s Women’s Sport Committee and Deputy General Secretary of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport.
