(Press Release) OCA resumes Fun Run + Learn in 2013

09 Jan 2013
Kuwait: The Olympic Council of Asia is pleased to announce the resumption of its popular Asian Games Fun Run + Learn series in 2013. The series, which began in 2012 and visited 10 National Olympic Committees, involves three elements: the Youth Reporter Project, Fun Learn quiz and Fun Run. All the activities are designed to promote the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, in 2014, to a new generation of sports enthusiasts and are held in conjunction with the Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (IAGOC) and the host NOC.

The 2013 series will start in Male, Maldives, on February 8-9 and continue in Thimphu, capital of Bhutan, on February 22-23. More stops will be confirmed in the coming weeks, taking the total for the year to around 12. The Youth Reporter Project involves a 90-minute workshop on a typical working day for media at the Asian Games, followed by a one-hour written test.

The workshop includes preparation and research, sports reporting, interviewing an athlete in a press conference environment and story construction. The student writing the best article at each of the Youth Reporter Projects in 2012 has been invited to attend one of the OCA’s two major events in 2013 to prepare for the 17th Asian Games the following year: the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, Korea, from June 29 to July 6, or the 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China, from August 16-24.

The Fun Learn quiz tests students’ knowledge of the Olympic Movement, the Olympic Council of Asia, the Asian Games and sport in general. The Fun Run attracts students of all ages in various categories and distances, with the winners receiving medals, trophies and gifts from the OCA, IAGOC and NOC and all runners earning a certificate and T-shirt as a souvenir. The exercises are for students aged between 15-17.
