Macau Fun Run attracts 700 youngsters

07 Nov 2012
Macau, China: Incheon Asian Games fever spread to Macau, China, on Wednesday, when 700 youngsters took part in the latest edition of the Olympic Council of Asia’s Fun Run series. The event took place at the Macau East Asian Games Dome and was organised jointly by OCA, the Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (IAGOC), the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China, and the government of the Macau Special Administrative Region.

“We are very happy to see so many youngsters here today celebrating the occasion of the Fun Run,” said the OCA’s Director of the Asian Games department, Mr Haider Farman. “The Incheon Asian Games Fun Run is very important in the promotion of the 17th Asian Games in 2014, and we wish you all success on this wonderful day in Macau.”

On a bright and breezy morning outside the Dome, which will host the 31st OCA General Assembly on Thursday, a high-level delegation came from Incheon, including IAGOC Secretary General Kwon Kyung Sang and Park Byung Jin, Director General of Cultural Events and Public Relations.

Mr Kwon spoke of the excitement in Korea building up to the hosting of the 17th Asian Games – the third to be held in Korea after Seoul 1986 and Busan 2002, and other major sports events such as the 1988 Seoul Olympics and 2002 FIFA World Cup, which Korea hosted jointly with Japan. “I hope this event will help you understand more about the Asian Games and about the city of Incheon and contribute to the harmony of the people of Asia,” said Mr Kwon.

Mr Charles Lo, President of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China, and Chairman of the OCA Media Committee, urged the 700 Fun Run participants to enjoy the occasion and make new friends, as sport brought everyone together.

“Perhaps we will discover a new champion today,” he said. “Perhaps some of you will discover a passion for running and go on to represent Macau in the Asian Games. Let’s have fun, let’s run and let’s enjoy the Fun Run together.” The top 10 boys and girls all received medals and certificates at a prize presentation.
