Cycling’s Sarah Lee is ‘best of the best’ at Samsung Sports Stars Awards

Hong Kong, China, March 21, 2017: Cycling champion Sarah Lee Wai Sze has been named Athlete of the Year for 2016 by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China. It was her fourth such title after winning previously in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
The 2012 London Olympics bronze medal-winner was named “Best of the Best” from a shortlist of eight candidates at the Samsung 2016 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on Tuesday evening.
Sarah, who won the bronze in women’s keirin at London 2012, had an outstanding year, despite missing out on a medal at Rio 2016. She was champion in the women’s sprint at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup II at Apeldoorn in the Netherlands and the bronze medal-winner in the women’s keirin at the same meet.
Sarah finished second in the women’s 500m time trial at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships and was women’s keirin champion at the 36th Asian Cycling Championships, where she also came third in the women’s sprint.
As of December 19, 2016, Sarah was ranked World No. 1 in women’s sprint and women’s 500m time trial and No. 2 in women’s keirin. Sarah also won the Hong Kong Sportsmanship Award on behalf of the Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China.
