Sochi golden girl Park Seung-Hi attends OCA YRP

26 Jul 2014
Incheon, Korea: Sochi Winter Olympic double champion Park Seung-Hi brought some star quality to the OCA Youth Reporter Project (YRP) at Incheon, Korea, on Saturday morning. Some 60 students aged 13 to 15 attended the YRP, which was conducted at the HQ of the Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee in Songdo and attended by short track speed skating star Park as the special guest for the press conference exercise.

Park, 22, won two gold medals and one bronze medal on the short track at Sochi, adding to her two bronze medals at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Having been appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the 17th Asian Games in Incheon from September 19 to October 4, Park attended the YRP and was given a rousing reception by the students and officials when she entered the conference room.

She answered questions for 20 minutes about her life and career before being the focal point of a souvenir photo for organisers and students alike. The students used the information from the press conference to write their article for the one-hour written test.

Following the YRP, a five-strong panel of judges selected the best four articles, two by girls and two by boys. The four winners will join OCA YRP representatives from Cambodia, Vietnam and Tajikistan at the Incheon Asian Games YRP, which will run from September 27 through to the closing ceremony on October 4.

The four winners were: Boys – Kang Ju-hyuk (13, Shinsong Middle School), Park Min-sung (13, Shinsong Middle School). Girls – Nam Goong-min (14, Shinsong Middle School), Park Joo-mi (14, Shinjeong Middle School).

The four winners will attend a prize-giving ceremony at IAGOC HQ on Sunday morning.
