OCA/IAGOC promotes anti-doping education for youth

21 Feb 2013
Thimphu, Bhutan: The Olympic Council of Asia, in conjunction with the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (IAGOC), are adding a new message to the Fun Learn programme in Bhutan – to keep drugs out of sport and out of life. As part of the Fun Learn quiz on Friday morning, the 100 students expected to attend will also receive a 20-minute presentation by Asian anti-doping expert Park Joo Hee.

It is all part of the efforts by the OCA and IAGOC to educate the youth about the dangers of taking performance-enhancing drugs, and designed to promote and encourage a healthy life style, fair play and clean sport.

Park Joo Hee recently became a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Education Committee. She is also a member of the OCA Anti-Doping Commission and Advisor for the Korean Anti-Doping Agency’s International Cooperation.

The Bhutan Olympic Committee hosted a meeting on Thursday afternoon for visiting delegates from the OCA and IAGOC at the Namgay Heritage Hotel in the capital Thimphu before visiting the venue for the two projects, Lungtenzampa School.

Around 100 students are expected to attend the Fun Learn quiz, which tests students’ knowledge of the OCA, Asian Games and Olympic sports, while 51 have signed up for the Youth Reporter Project on Saturday morning.

Thursday marked the first day of a three-day national holiday to celebrate the 33rd birthday of the King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. The IAGOC delegation arrived in Bhutan on Thursday morning, led by Lee Byung Gook, Director General of Cultural Events.
