17 Mar 2017
Doha, Qatar, March 16, 2017: Qatar beat Bahrain 67-50 at the Aspire Dome on Thursday to retain the basketball gold medal at the 5th GCC Women’s Games. In the three-team, double round-robin event, defending champions Qatar had already beaten Bahrain 58-56 in their earlier meeting.

In their second and decisive clash, Qatar proved much too strong and clinched top spot in the group with three straight wins and with one game still to play, against UAE on Friday. Bahrain took the silver medal and UAE the bronze.

Meanwhile, the organising committee chairman and Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary General Dr Thani Al Kuwari chaired the executive office meeting on the sidelines of the games. A number of subjects were brought up at the meeting, while several decisions and recommendations were declared. The games will come to an end on Friday with what promises to be a spectacular closing ceremony.

It will be held under the patronage of the Vice Chair and CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani.
