Dancing robots attract the crowds at Dubai

19 Oct 2011
Dubai, UAE: A group of dancing robots presented by the Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee at the Asian Games Dubai fun run has once again displayed Korea's high-tech cutting edge on the world stage. As part of the Incheon Asian Games Korean Culture Programme for the Dubai fun run, IAGOC brought six mini-robots performing Korean pop culture in front of hundreds of Dubai fun run participants.

Naturally it proved to be very popular for the young generation and local media alike. "IAGOC wants to introduce different aspects of Korean culture through the Incheon Asian Games and its PR campaign," said IAGOC's Deputy Secretary General for Games Operation, Su Jung Ghyu.

"We also understand the diverse Asian culture in different parts of the Asian continent, The robot dancing show is just our first experiment and it will give us more experience about how IAGOC could further promote the Incheon Asian Games in the future."

Korea's robotics industry is making rapid headway as local developers chalked up record growth in output, sales and exports last year on the back of surging investment in factories, a government study showed recently.

According to the survey by the Korea Association of Robot Industry of 395 firms in July 2011, the total combined sales nearly doubled to 1.93 trillion Won (USD 1.67 billion) in the past year.

The total production volume and exports increased 75 per cent and 137 per cent to around 1.78 trillion won (USD 1.53 billion) and 229 billion won (USD 198 million) respectively.
