Macau sports community celebrates Asian Games success

Macau, China, September 5, 2018: The Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region of Macau, China, Dr Fernando Chui Sai On, congratulated the athletes who brought glory to Macau at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.

The SAR Chief Executive was Guest of Honour at a reception by the Macau sports community at the Fisherman’s Wharf on Wednesday evening.

Dr Chui said the whole delegation had brought honour to Macau and been true representatives of the flag and the SAR, and he praised the hard work, fair play and spirit of athletes, officials and administrators alike.

Macau won five medals during the 18th Asian Games from August 18 to September 2, comprised of one gold, two silver and two bronze, to finish 26th in the medal rankings.

All five medal-winners were in attendance, led by wushu champion Huang Junhua, supported by athletes, coaches, officials and sports leaders in a festive gathering played out to a backdrop of big-screen video highlights and the theme song “Meraih Bintang” (Reach for the Stars) by Via Vallen.

The President of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China, Mr Charles Lo, and the President of the SAR Sports Bureau, Mr Pun Weng Kun, were also VIP attendees celebrating Macau’s success in the 18th Asian Games.
