“The Indonesian contingent must be confident that we can make a statement at the international level,” added Puan, who is the daughter of Indonesia’s fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri, and grand-daughter of the country’s first president, Soekarno.

Having finished 17th at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, in 2014, with four gold medals, Indonesia is targeting a top 10 finish this time.

To do this they have set a minimum target of 10 gold medals – the same number Qatar achieved in finishing 10th at Incheon 2014 – but will be aiming much higher, with predictions ranging from 16 to 20 gold medals.
