Manila, Philippines, September 12, 2018: During the incentive awarding for Asian Games medalists at Malacañan Palace on Wednesday, President Rodrigo Duterte added 2 million peso (40,000 USD) for a gold medal on top of the 2 million granted by law via RA 10699.
Gold medalists shall therefore receive 4 million peso (80,000 USD) in total from the Philippine government.
This is on top of the 1 million peso (20,000 USD) each coming from the Siklab Foundation of Sec. Dennis Uy and from the Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Lee Hiong Tan Wee, plus the 2 million peso gift from the Philippine Olympic Committee. This makes 8 million peso (160,000 USD) in total for gold.
The Philippines won four gold medals at the 18th Asian Games – in weightlifting, golf (2) and skateboarding, all by female athletes.
