Lalitpur, Nepal, August 6, 2019: The Nepal Taekwondo Association headquarters in Lalitpur has received official recognition as a regional training centre from World Taekwondo.
Choue Chungwon, President of World Taekwondo, officially inaugurated the centre on Monday, August 5, making it the 12th international facility recognised by the world governing body for the sport.
Choue said the centre would play in important role in lifting the standards of taekwondo in Nepal.
“It is a great project for Nepali taekwondo. We have such facilities around the world having started it for the first time in China in 2008,” Choue said.
He revealed World Taekwondo would launch educational projects and provide technical support and expert manpower at the centre which will be run by Nepal Taekwondo Association.
“The facility meets the standards to make it a regional centre. But now it's up to the local athletes to make the best use of it. Players and officials from other countries can come here and train in coordination with the Nepal Taekwondo Association and World Taekwondo,” Choue added.
Nepal will be targeting a rich haul of gold medals at the 13th South Asian Games to be held in Kathmandu from December 1-10. The last time these Games were held in Kathmandu, in 1999, Nepal won 14 gold medals in taekwondo.
