Asian Beach Games will leave stadium legacy for Sanya and Hainan

Date : 29 Nov 2019

Sanya, China, November 28, 2019: The OCA’s sixth Asian Beach Games in Sanya, Hainan Island, next year will leave more than a legacy of just beach and sea sports tourism.

It will also leave Sanya city with the biggest and most modern football and athletics stadium in all Hainan province.

Construction of the Sanya International Sports Industrial Park is well under way and the main focus for the Asian Beach Games is the main stadium and the 3,000 apartments being built in five compact neighbourhood zones.

The new stadium, with a capacity of 45,300, will host the closing ceremony on December 6, 2020. The apartments will accommodate around 4,000 athletes and officials from 45 National Olympic Committees in their own Asian Beach Games Village located in Baopo Road in the Jiyang district, just a 10-minute drive to downtown Sanya.

The final layout of the sports park will be determined after the Asian Beach Games, with plans to build a luxurious hotel resort as well as other sports and recreation facilities.

With 1,000 workers already on the project, the progress is being monitored on a series of big screens in the engineering command centre.

Constructors are confident that, with one year still to go to the sixth ABG opening ceremony on November 28, 2020, everything will be completed in good time to welcome the athletes and officials into their own village.
