Doha, Qatar, August 4, 2019: Qatar will host three Olympic qualifying events in table tennis next year.
The Qatar Table Tennis Association announced that the upcoming edition of the ITTF World Tour Qatar Open to be held in March 2020 will also serve as a World mixed doubles qualification event for Tokyo 2020.
Two of the 16 berths available for Tokyo in the mixed doubles competition will be decided at the Qatar Open. There will also be continental qualifiers for the Olympics. Japan as host nation have already qualified.
The World Singles qualification tournament in Doha from May 28-31, 2020 will also double as an Olympic qualifying tournament for men and women. Two Olympic spots each for men and women are up for grabs. The Olympic singles competition will be a 64-strong field.
China’s Ma Long won the men’s singles title at the Qatar Open in March 2019 while compatriot Wang Manyu won the women’s singles title.
