Manama, Bahrain, April 15, 2019: Recently-elected Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa will allocate five annual sports scholarships for talented athletes, he announced as he chaired his first board meeting on Friday, April 12.
Shaikh Khalid said the Khalid bin Hamad Foundation would grant scholarships to five promising young athletes every year in accordance with specific criteria and conditions.
Shaikh Khalid began the meeting by expressing his great pride at being elected president and for the trust shown in him by the General Assembly. He also praised the outstanding work and initiatives of his predecessor, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Other important topics discussed included a study to initiate a WADA-accredited anti-doping laboratory in Bahrain, marketing and promotion and cooperation with sports media.
The BOC Secretary General, Mohammed Al Nusuf, made a presentation on the new vision and strategy of the Bahrain Olympic Committee in developing the administrative, financial and technical work of the BOC and its affiliated sports federations.
The board of directors made several key decisions, the first of which was appointing Shaikha Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa as a member of the board; Mohammed Shahad Shamsuddin was appointed a board consultant and Amma Ismail Al Mansouri was named Executive Director of Resources and Services.
The board also formed new standing committees, including the sports medicine committee and an evaluation and standard setting committee with the aim of distributing the budgets of the federations and headed by Shaikha Hessa.
