Inaugural ANOC World Beach Games relocated from San Diego

Date : 01 Jun 2019

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 1, 2019: ANOC, the Association of National Olympic Committees, has decided to relocate its inaugural World Beach Games to a new host city to ensure it provides the best possible environment for NOCs and their athletes.

San Diego was set to host the 2019 ANOC World Beach Games in October but could not secure the necessary financial backing and corporate sponsorship.

ANOC is currently in discussion with a number of cities – in Asia too – that have financial guarantees necessary and a proven track record to host a world-class event.

Dubai and a city in China were among candidates which bid to host the 2019 World Beach Games.

China’s coastal city of Sanya will host the 6th Asian Beach Games in 2020. The decision was taken at Olympic Council of Asia’s General Assembly in Jakarta last September.

More than 70 National Olympic Committees have qualified for the ANOC World Beach Games so far and ANOC is looking forward to an excellent event which showcases the world’s best athletes from across 14 exciting and youth-centric beach, water and action sports.

An announcement on the new host city is expected soon.
