Asian Games Fun Run inspires Palestine's young generation
12 Jun 2011
Ramallah, Palestine: The Asian Games Fun Run has become a driving force to power Palestine's young generation. The 5th Incheon Asian Games Fun Run was held Sunday in Ramallah, the administrative capital of Palestine, and attracted 500 boys and girls aged from nine to 12.
Although there are still many uncertainties and challenges ahead for this new generation, their paths are already different from their parents or grandparents.
Besides receiving a good education, many Palestinian boys and girls have chosen sport as their new means to pursue their dreams and success.
Clearly a Chelsea fan, 11-year-old Tamara is a fifth grade student from Samehakhalil School. She not only participated in the 5th Incheon Asian Games Fun Run, but also won a medal for her excellent performance, thanks to her running talent and passion for sport.
“I am so happy to join today’s Asian Games Fun Run,” Tamara told OCASIA.ORG in excellent English. “Besides my studies, I often participate in sport at school and running is one of my favourite sports.
“I love running, and I will keep running till someday I’m good enough to run for Palestine in the Asian Games,” she emphasised.
There is no doubt that this new generation has became the future of Palestine sport. Palestine Olympic Committee President Major General Jibril Rajoub has also noticed the change.
“These young Palestinians are indeed my priority in building up and developing Palestine sport. That is why I’m busy day and night these days. They are our future and Palestine sport has a good future.”
On the same day, Major General Jibirl Roub witnessed his Olympic team defeat the Italian Olympic team 3:0 on home soil at Doura Stadium, with a full house of more than 25,000 die-hard Palestinian fans. This is further evidence that Palestine sport is on the rise and preparing to surprise the world.
