Hanoi, Vietnam, April 19, 2017: The Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, was elected President of the Vietnam Olympic Committee at the 5th National Congress in Hanoi from April 15-16. His term covers the period 2016-2020. Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the VOC from 2011 to 2016, Hoang Tuan Anh, reviewed its activities, including hosting the 5th Asian Beach Games in Danang last September and devising the plan for hosting the South East Asian Games in 2021.

The committee also played an active role in popularising the campaign “All people take exercise following the great Uncle Ho’s example”. Together with the Vietnam Sports Administration, national sports associations and federations, departments and localities, the VOC helped Vietnam athletes compete in 23 international sports events, during which they won 1,682 gold, 1,447 silver and 1,490 bronze medals.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said: “We firmly believe that the Vietnam Olympic Committee, in its 2016-2020 tenure, will do its best to help improve people’s physical health and raise Vietnam’s status in the global sports arena. We must uphold and expand the Olympic spirit to the general public”.

Vice Presidents (7): Mr Nguyen Duc Hanh, Mr Nguyen Dong Tien, Mr Vuong Bich Thang, Mr Pham Ngoc Minh, Mr Hoang Vinh Giang, Mr Le Van Kiem and Mr Huynh Uy Dung.
