Thimphu, Bhutan: The latest winner of the Olympic Council of Asia’s Fun Learn quiz is 16-year-old Sonam Choden from Dechencholing Middle Secondary School in Thimphu, capital of Bhutan. Sonam emerged victorious from a starting field of 120 students packed into the main hall of Lungtenzampa School on Friday morning – the first day of the OCA’s two-day Fun Learn and Youth Reporter Project, held in conjunction with the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (IAGOC) and Bhutan Olympic Committee.

A series of questions testing the students’ knowledge of the Asian Games, the Olympic Council of Asia and of sports technicalities gradually eliminated her rivals and left her as the last girl standing in the Fun Learn quiz. “This morning when I arrived at the school I did not think I could win this competition,” she said in a post-quiz interview to her fellow students. “I am so glad and so happy.”

The prizes were presented by the President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, and by the leader of the IAGOC delegation in Bhutan, Lee Byung Gook, Director General of Cultural Events.

A new addition to the Fun Learn programme was a presentation by Park Joo Hee, a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Education Committee and of the Olympic Council of Asia Anti-Doping Commission. She is also Advisor on International Cooperation for the Korean Anti-Doping Agency, as well as OCA Protocol General Manager for IAGOC.

Her presentation encouraged a healthy lifestyle among the students and urged them to shun doping in sport to ensure fair and clean competition. All the students received a Fun Learn T-shirt and cap and other gifts and souvenirs from the organizers.

On Saturday, 51 students will attend the Youth Reporter Project – a 90-minute workshop on a typical working day for a sports journalist at a major multi-sport event such as the Asian Games, followed by a one-hour news reporting test. The winning article will be invited to attend the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, in 2014 as part of the OCA media team, working for the OCA website and official newsletter Sporting Asia.
